This blog is the best source for info on lacrosse in Georgia, at all levels, and will greatly depend upon viewer input. In addition to the moderator's opinions and analysis, this blog will be an interactive forum for your comments, links, schedules, results, stats, photos/videos, and more.
Zack Price and Adam Seal are going to High Point, Loren Baily is going to Stevenson, Colin Massa is going to Deleware, Connor Butz is playing club at UGA, Jordan Cunningham is going to Denver, Ned Keish is going to Lenoir-Rhyne, Timmy Geran is going to Mercer. These are the people that I know are going places. Feel free to add
During year, I noticed that the top 5A and 4A team always had the same PR on laxpower. Now there is slight difference with Walton topping Lambert in state. What Because said may impact it. It could also be impacted by SOS, since you notice Walton is 4 in SOS while Lambert is 12 in SOS. Not sure if that impacts it but might be. Laxpower has some merit but with the strang computer model, I'm not sure how much credance you really put in it. However, when you have one of those situations like you have with Walton, Lambert and Northview, where one beat one but was beat by another which was beat by the other, there's always question which is better. I guess the computer model figures it out based on something. But that doesn't change the fact that Walton won 5A and Lambert won 4A, which is what matters for that purpose. This is similar to how laxpower showed some teams ranked in the top 4 in their area based upon PR but those teams didn't make playoffs because they weren't really in top 4 in their area in head to head play. PR is overall but didn't take into account Ws and Ls in the area games.
I have heard that 6 Alpharetta players are going to UGA, in addition to a number of others from good HS lax programs in the area. I believe that UGA will have an excellent incoming freshman lax class. The UGA team is already a young squad so they could have a number of good years ahead of them. All the best to each boy playing college lax, wherever they decide to play. By the way, when you are done playing, pleas come back to the area and coach!
A number of Northview guys are going to UGA and a larger number are going to Georgia Southern. This will add greatly to the talent on both of those squads.

While my son is going on to play college ball I would also like to point out that many Lambert and I would suspect other High School Seniors are going on to college leaving their lacrosse careers at the High School level. While some will play club ball others will just enjoy the academic and social life that college offers. Playing at the college level is a different animal than playing High School ball and its great to see these young men starting to make mature decisions whether that decision is to play or not. I salute every high school senior. Looking forward to watching some summer ball and lets keep this thread going with summer commits from rising lax players in Ga.
Many of these names are viewable on Lax Power, many not....I also understand Army Prep is the destination for Milton's Nugent and Canara - good luck and hope you make to West Point - either way, Thank You for serving our Country.

Congratulations to all Graduates continuing on to play college lax. You all honor GA lax.
A lot of people say they are playing club in college....wait till you find out how much it costs (if you are tight with money), the time it takes up (if you are taking a hard schedule), and the overall college attitude of wanting to relax and have a brew.
you guys have to remember just because a kid is going to a certain college doesn't mean they will continue to play lacrosse there. Of course we all would like to see them succeed and grow the game at the college level, we have to remember it is the kid's decision.
Scholarships depend on th school and how much is costs to go there. Schools give out scholarships based on percentages and not money because there is a limit to the number of scholarships not a limit on the amount of money.
Having said that would say that a very good offer for an incoming freshman playing D1 lax is about 1/4.
Also coaches change the amount each year so as a player gets older and becomes a more intricate part of the team the coach may give them more scholarship money.
related to scholarships.... At the Division 1 level, 60 universities have lacrosse teams for men. There are 12.6 scholarships available per team to be divided among the players.
At the Division 2 level, 41 universities have lacrosse teams for men. There are 10.8 scholarships available per team to be divided among the players.
At Division 3 level, good grades carry the weight and will determine your grant, as well as how badly a program desires your services.
Any of you college bound guys looking to work on their footwork/speed/conditioning send me an email canadatj@gmail.con. I've been training guys like Ned Kaish, jack chase, Harper, Morabito, and most the other Walton guys along with Scott Ratliff(lsm @ loyola) for most of their high school careers.
Here are the 2011 Georgia players who committed to Oglethorpe, which will enter their second year as a D3 team, and should be very competitive next season.

When I was introduced to the sport of lacrosse, there were no high school programs, no youth leagues, and very few people who knew the sport in Georgia. Happily, lacrosse is currently thriving in our great state and growing at an incredible rate.
I am passionate about lax and its growth in Georgia. As a former prep and college club level player, I have avidly followed the growth of the sport. And, as a former coach for youth and high school players, I want to see the quality of coaching continue to improve at all levels. Above all, I want to assist in the growth of lacrosse in Georgia, and uphold the traditions and spirit of lax... RESPECT & HONOR THE GAME!

Walton is ranked higher AFTER the TN state championship the other day.
ReplyDeleteWalton beat Harrison-- who beat Memphis University -- the eventual champs
Lambert beat McCallie-- who lost to Memphis University in the semis.
Laxpower is flawed, but until there is better solution, then it's all we've got.
Walton also beat McCallie
ReplyDeleteWalton #1 or Lambert #1 does not really matter...both were clear cut Champions in their Areas. Good job to both....
ReplyDeleteGood luck to guys going to play in college...hopefully the rest of the guys have great summers of playing and improve for next year.
